Summer Reading Club 2024 Coordinator

The Hazelton District Public Library is looking to hire a Summer Reading Club Co-ordinator.

This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must be 16 – 30 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada.


Basic job information:

  • 30 hrs a week for 10 weeks from June 17 to August 31, 2024.
  • There may some flexibility in the start and stop dates.
  • Rate of pay $17.40 per hour to $18 per hour, depending on skills and experience.

General expectations:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver up to three Summer Reading Club programs per week for seven weeks for children 3 – 13 years of age at the Hazelton District Public Library.
  • Help co-ordinate and support Summer Reading Clubs and their facilitators in our surrounding communities.
  • Learn and help with basic library tasks, including, but not limited to, reshelving books, serving library patrons, and organizing books and crafts for multiple Summer Reading Clubs.
  • Actively promote the Summer Reading Clubs and other library summer programs.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Available for training mid-June 2024.

Would you like to have a Summer Reading Club in your community?

The Hazelton District Public Library is hiring people to facilitate Summer Reading Clubs for children once a week in July and August.

We’d like to have a SRC in every community we serve: Gitanyow, Kitwanga/Cedarvale, Gitwangak, Gitsegukla, South Hazelton, New Hazelton, Witset, Hagwilget (Tsekya), Two Mile, Gitanmaax, Sik E Dakh, Anspayaxw, Kispiox Valley.

This would be a paid part-time contract.

Free training will be provided, along with support materials from the BC Library Association and the Hazelton District Public Library.
