About Library To Go
It’s called Library To Go and is a provincially-run service. Some libraries have additional ebooks and audiobooks for loan – check with your local library for more information. Sometimes, the service is referred to as Libby because that’s the name of the software used to run it.
How many ebooks or audiobooks can I sign out?
You can borrow 7 items at a time and check them out for 7, 14 or 21 days at a time.
How do I return an item?
Items are automatically returned (or expired). They’ll still appear on your device, but will no longer be available. You can either delete the title then or borrow it again.
Can I renew items?
You can renew items if there are no existing holds. The option to renew a title becomes available three days before the title is set to expire and appears next to the title on your Bookshelf under your library account. You can only use the renew feature once for each title you’ve borrowed.
Can I place a hold?
Yes, you can place holds on up to 7 items at a time. You’ll receive an email when the hold is ready and will have 3 days to download the title. To cancel a hold, sign into your account, click the “Holds” link and click the “Remove” link for the title.
Can I re-deliver a hold?
Yes, you can suspend a hold even after it’s made available to you, while maintaining your place on the wait list. After receiving notification that a hold is available, you can:
- Borrow the title within 3 days. If your library has a different hold pick-up setting, Libby will automatically update it to 3 days.
- Suspend the hold and pass the book to the next person in line. After the suspension period (set by the you), the hold will be redelivered when the next copy is available.
- Cancel the hold.
If you take no action, your hold will automatically be suspended one time for 7 days. If no action is taken a second time, the hold will be cancelled automatically. Notifications will be sent by email and will also appear in Libby (both web platform and device app) and in Libby’s push notification area.
Will my mobile device work with Library To Go?
Most likely yes. The Libby app is available from Google Play and the Apple App Store
